Listen to Learn, Learn to Listen
As a realistic optimist, I believe that every person on earth has a God-given purpose. Helping others find that purpose and getting trained in the skills needed to exercise it properly is my passion!
I began my career in marketing and fundraising. During that time, I started working with Cambodian refugee students and their families and felt more compelled each year to move into education as I could only effect so much change seeing students on a weekly or monthly basis. Thus, after six years I made a career change to teaching and at the same time I started my own family and earned my SS credential in English. Over the next 10+ years I worked as an English and journalism teacher, then as a Title 1 and Smaller Learning Communities Coordinator. I got my M.Ed in Education in 2013 and returned to the urban classroom with an eye on the role of technology in shifting access in education and work. Social justice is a foundational value in all I do to demonstrate an incarnational love for those who would feel forgotten or left behind in the education system. |
Little did I realize that in 2020 the worldwide pandemic would accelerate the readiness of the world to move towards digital instruction as never before. By 2022, as the world began to emerge from COVID-19, I had moved to the corporate world of Instructional Design.
Wherever I find myself working, however, the need remains to bridge the gaps in our societal systems to provide an equitable education for ALL people, regardless of economic standing. Through the blended use of digital technologies and carefully crafted relationship, it is not a job to be managed by just one "superhero" teacher or subject matter expert--it requires partnerships and collaborations. Thus, my vision is to be building a " Brave New World" of technology with heart, soul and discernment that needs to be built with all hands on board. What is YOUR vision? Let's work together! |
